Clay Lantern Workshop

  • Art House North 793 Armstrong Avenue West Saint Paul, MN, 55102 United States (map)

Spend a morning making a lantern to light on All Saints' Day or Dia de los Muertos in remembrance of a loved one. Led by potter Christy Wetzig, participants will learn how to use clay slabs to construct a simple votive lantern which they will pierce/carve/embellish. We'll talk about how simple patterns or shapes can reflect and honor the memory of a loved one— so don't worry, you won't have to carve their portrait! You're welcome to come with ideas and/or objects to press into the clay to remind you of your loved one.

Each finished lantern will be taken to Christy's home studio, fired, and returned by the following Saturday, just in time to be lit for All Saints' Day.

Experience with clay is not necessary, and all skill levels are welcome. Please dress for some mess.

Space is limited to 12 participants. Cost is $65, inclusive of materials (+ coffee and morning treats from our neighborhood bakery, Brake Bread!)

Christy Wetzig is a studio potter, preacher, and homesteader in rural Wisconsin, where, as if that weren't enough, she also teaches pottery classes. https://christywetzig.com/
